At Bishopton FC, we’re passionate about improving facilities—not just for our club, but for everyone in Bishopton and the surrounding area. That’s why we’re proud to lend our support to a growing campaign advocating for a brand-new artificial pitch in our neighbourhood.

Why the push for artificial turf?

Grass pitches are vulnerable: to bad weather, to heavy use, and to maintenance costs and downtime. An artificial or synthetic playing surface offers much greater consistency, fewer cancellations, and use through all seasons. For local clubs, schools, and community groups, it means more reliable access.

The campaign has gained momentum in recent months, as local residents, sports stakeholders, and community organisations work together to make the case to local government and funding bodies. Their message is clear: a high-quality artificial pitch would transform sport provision in Bishopton.

How Bishopton FC is involved

Bishopton FC recognises how much an artificial surface could benefit all of us:

  • More training time, especially during winter or rainy periods
  • Reduced wear and tear on grass fields, helping preserve existing pitches
  • Greater flexibility for match scheduling across youth, adult, girls’ & women’s teams
  • The ability to open up the facility for community use, local schools, and partner clubs

We’ve been engaging with the campaign organisers, sharing our insights into what a facility like this would enable, and helping raise awareness of its importance in our part of Renfrewshire.

The wider context: funding & support

In recent developments, Renfrewshire Council has confirmed a significant investment in outdoor sport infrastructure. Their Artificial Pitches Grant Fund is offering match funding assistance (up to £400,000 per project) to help local groups build new artificial playing surfaces.

Two nearby community projects — Thorn Athletic and Inchinnan Development Trust — have already secured funding through this scheme, thanks in part to match contributions from the Scottish Football Association’s facilities programmes.

These successes prove that well-planned, community-backed projects can gain traction, and Bishopton could follow suit with enough support.

What needs to happen next

For this campaign to succeed, we need:

Broad support — from local residents, community groups, schools, and sports clubs

A feasible plan — site surveys, design, drainage, lighting, auxiliary facilities

Partnerships & funding — leveraging both council grants and national/institutional support

Sustained advocacy — consistent messaging, public backing, and pressure on decision-makers

The more voices we can bring to the table, the greater the chance we can make a real difference.

What you can do to help

  • Spread the word — talk about the campaign on social media, local groups, and among neighbours
  • Sign petitions or show your support — help demonstrate community need
  • Attend public consultations — stay involved when councils or funders host events
  • Offer expertise or help — whether in planning, fundraising or volunteering

At Bishopton FC, we’ll continue to support and promote this effort. We believe a high-quality artificial pitch would be a lasting legacy for our club and the wider Bishopton community.

Together, let’s turn this campaign into a reality.
